Brandon Knoles finished second at 220 at the Chase County meet. In pool matches, he pinned Burlington, Colorado’s Isaac Mantey. He had to face him here again in the championship match.

Wid, Knoles continue to pace wrestlers

Senior Jace Wid and junior Brandon Knoles continued their winning ways last week as Wid improved to 14-1 and Knoles to 25-7.

Wid, wrestling at 160, won his way through the Chase County meet to take first.

In his championship match, he defeated Hitchcock County’s Keegan Shuler (23-7) in a 9-4 decision. 

His weight class was open for three duals at Hershey.

Knoles, wrestling at 220, finished second at Chase County losing a 16-10 decision to Burlington, Colorado’s Isaac Mantey. 

Earlier in the day, Knoles defeated Mantey in pool matches, pinning him in 5:19.

The top four in each pool advanced to the championship bracket for a pair of matches.

Knoles also added a pair of wins at Hershey. 

Coach Tanner Collins said the Plainsmen have wrestled in five meets in two weeks and the fatigue began to show at Chase County Saturday. 

The wrestlers have the week off and will travel to Chadron Friday for their invitational Saturday. 

Other wrestlers placing at Imperial Saturday included Austin Meyer (285) in fourth, Ashton Meyer (285) sixth, Kyler Bullock (170) fifth and Kannon Palu (170) seventh. 

The Plainsmen finished 10th in the 18 team tournament team standings with 53 points. Ogallala won the meet with 190 and Bridgeport was second with 172.
