Wrestlers fourth at Garden County

Perkins County’s wrestlers returned home from the Garden County meet Saturday with six medal winners and a fourth place finish in the 27-team meet.

Coach Tanner Collins said he’s really pleased with the progress he’s seen in his team.

Collins said duel matches on Thursday and a full slate of matches Saturday is getting his wrestlers into the shape they need to be.

Districts is just four weeks away.

Jace Wid at 160 and Brandon Knoles at 220 each brought home first place medals to improve their season records.

Ashton Meyers took second at 285 while his brother Austin finished in fourth. Collins said Austin lost his semifinal match or would have meet his brother in the finals.

Colton Pouk at 138 finished in third with Bryder Hickey taking second in the 145 jayvee bracket.

The Plainsmen held a triangular Thursday, playing host to Garden County and Bayard.

Perkins County won both duels.

Collins was hoping for more matches, however, a number of classes were open.

The wrestlers have a busy week in front of them with a jayvee meet Tuesday, with six of his wrestlers competing.

On Thursday, they travel to Hershey for quadrangular that includes Sutherland and St. Pat’s.

Then, on Saturday, they travel to Imperial for the Chase County Invitational.
