2020 fair to be held as 4-H only event

Livestock sale July 25

The Perkins County Fair Board met on Tuesday June 2 and made the decision to host the 2020 fair as a 4-H only event.

The conversation as to how to carry on with this year’s fair with the current pandemic had been ongoing for several months and the board put it off as long as possible in the hopes of lightened Directive Health Measures.

However, that was unfortunately not the case and there is still too much uncertainty,  and the staff needed and the requirements under the current directives were not feasible.

The fair board, and representatives from the 4-H council gave a lot of thought to the youth who have already put so much into their projects this year and it was decided that the 4-H events would go on, though there will be some changes.

The livestock shows will be held as “show and go” and no animals will be staying on the fair grounds.

The livestock sale will be held on Saturday, July 25, though a different format can be expected.

More details on 4-H events will be released as they are decided.

The Sawyer Brown Concert that was scheduled for this year has been rescheduled for next year, on Saturday July 24, 2021. Tickets already purchased are transferable or refundable.

The 2020 fair will not include any food vendors, bounce houses, bingo, the ranch rodeo or the parade.

The fair board said in their public statement “this is a decision we did not take lightly, and we appreciate your support and understanding through these unfortunate circumstances.”
