40-year member retires from Suburban Fire Board

After over 40 years of service, Rex Wilson has officially retired from his position on the board.

“I have always felt that serving on the Suburban Fire Board has been a privilege. Having a good fire department and the facilities to serve the people of our Suburban Fire District is a responsibility that I have taken seriously,” stated Rex Wilson.

“As a young man when I lived in town I served on the fire department and worked with a dedicated group of people fighting fires and answering ambulance calls. After moving to the country I was asked to serve on the Rural Fire Board.”

Throughout the years, there have been many changes in methods, equipment and, of course, personnel.

For example, it used to take four men to run a truck and now one person can drive a truck and run the nozzle if necessary.

The dedication of the firemen is a true asset to the area. The fire district is always in need of people willing to donate hours for training, responding to calls, both fire and ambulance, and mutual aid.

“I have enjoyed my years of serving on the board, and have worked with great people, but after 40 years it is time to move on!” Wilson said.
