Annual fun day slated for July 4

Grant’s annual Fourth of July Celebration will kick off next Thursday at Grant City Park at 6:45 a.m. with an opening ceremony, followed by the Firecracker Fun Run at 7 a.m. 

Image Total Fitness will be donating all proceeds from the fun run to Perkins County Schools’ TeamMates mentoring program.

Perkins County Schools Foundation will be serving a free-will breakfast from 7-8:30 a.m.

New to the schedule of events this year will be yard games throughout the day, provided by the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce.

Returning after a hiatus will be yoga in the park at 9 a.m. with Image Total Fitness.

The Perkins County Pool Project will be serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Bounce houses will be open from noon to 5 p.m., sponsored by Adams Bank & Trust.

The Ride Rite car show will also take place from noon to 5 p.m., with the Mid-Plains 1969 Ford Mustang raffle car on display. See story on page 3  for more information. 

Perkins County FFA will serve slushies at 1 p.m. during their corn hole tournament. The entry fee for the tournament is $20, with prizes for first, second and third. 

Also beginning at 1 p.m. will be the horseshoe tournament hosted by Great Plains Communications and free swimming at the Grant Municipal Pool. 

With the high for the day expected to reach 87 degrees, swimmers can cool off until free swimming ends at 5 p.m.

Judging for the rib cookoff will be at 2 p.m. 

Music and announcements throughout the day will be provided by Matthew Chandler-Smith of Orpheus Multimedia. 

The celebration is organized by The Perkins County Chamber of Commerce. 

The annual fireworks display will conclude the day at 9:30 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds. The show is presented by the Grant Volunteer Fire Department and funded by the Perkins County Chamber and public donations. 

2019 donations

As of June 25, donations made to the Perkins County fireworks total $3,210 of the $8,000 goal. Donations are accepted at the banks in Grant and the Barber Pole.
