In honor of Arbor Day, the Grant Tree Board and the Perkins County Extension gave a presentation to students at Perkins County Elementary on Monday, May 1. Arbor Day is traditionally celebrated the last Friday in April. The event at the school had been postponed from Friday due to inclement weather.

Deb Kuenning, extension educator, presented a short history of Arbor Day, the importance of planting trees, and what can be learned from trees.

Next, the third graders entertained the rest of the student body, teachers and members of the community with an Arbor Day rap.

This was followed by tree board president Jon Forney, assisted by sixth grader Kannon Palu planting an oak tree in front of the school.

Plans are made to add a tree at the site of the new construction at the high school building.
