City to open request for pool designs

2 up for city superintendent

Grant’s council meeting on March 26 began with a 3-1 vote to approve the agenda, with Councilman Matt Greenwood voting no due to issues with the Miller & Associates pool agreement.

City Attorney Tawna Holmstedt updated the council on Miller & Associates Consulting Engineers’ responses to their questions on the pending agreement for professional services for the pool project.

The council voted 3-1 to vet the agreement before taking further action. Greenwood voted no.

At their Feb. 26 meeting, the council unanimously voted to look into exploring other options for the pool build.

During last week’s meeting, the council discussed requesting proposals for other pool designs.

While Miller’s agreement provides a custom pool design, the council discussed the option of a cookie-cutter design. Holmstedt said that is one of the first things they need to decide.

Members of the council went back and forth, liking the option of a custom design to specify to the communities’ needs, but questioning the cost difference.

Mayor Lisa Schmitt recommended opening proposals, giving the council the opportunity to look at both options side-by-side.

“This way we have updated information. Right now I feel like everything is still,” she said.

The council voted 3-1 to open a request for proposals for both custom and cookie-cutter pool designs, with Greenwood voting no.

Superintendent

The council went into executive session to discuss applicants for the city superintendent position. Councilman Edward Dunn was excused, as he applied for the position.

Schmitt said on Tuesday, April 2 that Dunn and Jeff Pederson of Wisconsin have been interviewed for the position.

Should Dunn be hired, he would have to resign his council seat.

Code book passes

The recodified municipal code book was approved with a 3-1 vote; Greenwood voting no. Greenwood stated he was opposed because he didn’t believe they had corrected anything.

Garbage truck for sale

The council unanimously voted to sell the 2008 Ihc 7600 garbage truck with snow removal attachments.

Bids must be submitted to the city office by April 19 at 4 p.m. and will be reviewed by the council at their meeting on April 23. See more information in public notice on page 8.

Special liquor licenses

Liquor licenses were unanimously approved for the Perkins County Animal Shelter fundraiser on April 13 and a wedding on behalf of Middle of Nowhere Bar.
