Even though the doors to the Grant city office and Perkins County courthouse are locked down, city and county government has not shut down.

The Grant City Council conducted their regular meeting last week via Zoom.com video conferencing.

City Superintendent Edward Dunn said that plan will continue for the next several meetings. In addition, the city will conduct the 3 p.m. bid opening for the pool Thursday by Zoom meeting.

Perkins County commissioners continue to meet in person, using social distancing. To accommodate wider spacing, the meetings have been moved to the courtroom on the third floor where people can spread out.

They are continuing to observe the 10-person limit in the room as well.

City action

The city council approved a year-round liquor license to the Perkins County fair board for use at activities on the fair grounds and the fair building.

Council members also took action to commit to no utility disconnects through May 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They waived renewal of dog licenses and ATV permits through May 31.

They also adopted a proclamation in recognition of Arbor Day.

County buys dozer

On Tuesday, commissioners approved the purchase of a 2013 Caterpillar D6N  dozer, originally bid at $167,500 through Nebraska Machinery Co.

The company agreed to complete some repairs on the machine and offer some warranty protection for an additional $2,000.
