Dr. Eric Gengenbach named Young Optometrist of the Year

Dr. Eric Gengenbach of Grant was named Young Optometrist of the Year by the Nebraska Optometric Association (NOA) on Sept. 23 during their fall convention.

The award recognizes a member who’s been a licensed optometrist for 10 years or less. The recipient must contribute their time and talent to the optometric profession, and show remarkable leadership skills while serving their profession, patients and community.

The NOA also recognizes their Optometrist of the Year, Keyperson of the Year, Distinguished Service Award and Para of the Year. Winners are selected by a nominating committee.

“It’s a huge honor, and I’m very grateful to the association,” Gengenbach said of the award.

He currently serves as vice-president of the NOA. Next year he will be president-elect and will serve as president the following year.

Gengenbach and his wife Tori, are both optometrists at First Insight Eyecare, with locations in Grant, Imperial, Ogallala and North Platte.

The couple had their fourth daughter on Aug. 16. Knowing Eric was receiving the award, Tori insisted he go to the convention without her.

Before the banquet on Saturday night, Eric heard a knock on his hotel room door, followed by little girl giggles.
