Election Day Tuesday

While the focus of this year’s General Election has been on the presidential race, voters in Perkins County will decide several local races when they go to the polls next Tuesday, Nov. 3.

In addition, voters across Nebraska will vote on U.S. Senate and Congressional races along with several state initiatives and constitutional amendments. 

Perkins County Clerk/Election Commissioner Rita Long said her office is ready for next Tuesday’s election. 

All voting for Perkins County’s three precincts will be done at the Perkins County Fairgrounds building. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and remain open through 7 p.m. MST.

All total, 1884 county residents are registered to vote in the election. A breakdown shows 1,383 Republicans, 249 Democrats, 10 Libertarians and 242 Nonpartisan. 

So far, 40% of the voters have cast their ballot, either through early voting or in-person voting at the clerk’s office. 

In the 2016 General Election, 73% of Perkins County’s registered voters went to the polls. 

Locally contested races include the board of education for Perkins County Schools, Grant city council and the Elsie village board.The Madrid  village board is also seeking tax levy authority for its cemetery.

Seven people are seeking one of three open seats on the school board. They include incumbent Jayson Bishop, Larry Pankonin Holly Cornelius, Janet Lagler and Valerie Foster and write-ins Richard Thurin and Aaron Uehling. 

Cornelius, Lagler and Foster all completed petitions after the primary election to get their names listed on the ballot.
