Elsie Trustees approve seasonal dumpster plan

The Elsie Village Board of Trustees approved weed-control measures, renewed memberships and software subscriptions, and adopted a seasonal plan for the community roll-off dumpster during its regular meeting June 11.

Chairman Doug Curtis called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Office. Trustees Lynn Cook, Vic Perez and Curtis were present, while Chris Flaming and Tamara Cook were absent and excused.

Board members received one phone call and one in-person report concerning rattlesnake sightings within the village.

The board approved the treasurer’s report and claims, including utility expenses, payroll, bond payments and routine operating costs. Trustees also renewed the village’s membership with the Nebraska Rural Water Association and approved renewing its QuickBooks Online subscription.

Following discussion of a notice received from the Perkins County Weed Control Authority, trustees voted to purchase weed-control chemicals locally to address compliance concerns.

No action was taken regarding spraying clover at the village park because the work had already been completed prior to the meeting.

Trustees also approved a plan to temporarily remove the community roll-off dumpster after its next scheduled dumping and return it Sept. 1. Board members said the measure is intended to manage use of the container during the summer months.

During miscellaneous business, trustees noted that two stop signs — one on Quincy Avenue and another on Perkins Avenue — had been knocked down. Repairs have since been completed.

Clerk Jessie Paintin reported she had completed the village’s lane and mile report and was preparing to process bond payments. No delinquent notices were issued during the month.

The board also received standing committee reports and reviewed utility matters in the absence of the village utilities superintendent.

The meeting adjourned at 8:21 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Elsie Village Board of Trustees is scheduled for July 9.
