Elsie trustees renew sheriff’s contract, discuss dumpster misuse
The Elsie Village Board renewed its law enforcement agreement with the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office and took steps to address concerns about misuse of the community roll-off dumpster during its regular meeting May 14.
Trustees unanimously approved renewal of the village’s interlocal agreement for law enforcement services with the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Scott Miller attended the meeting.
Board members also discussed ongoing concerns regarding improper use of the village’s roll-off dumpster. Following discussion, trustees voted to contact attorney Josh Wendell about drafting a violation ordinance that would address misuse of the service.
The board approved a building permit for property located at 101 McCullough Ave. Chairman Doug Curtis abstained from the vote, while the remaining trustees approved the permit.
Utilities Superintendent Wade Turner reported that monthly water meter readings were completed and a routine coliform water sample tested satisfactory. Turner also reported that a new lock box had been installed on the Legion Hall thermostat and that repairs to the west well were completed with the installation of a new motor overload block.
Turner said mowing operations are ongoing and informed the board of upcoming board training scheduled for June 17 in Paxton. He also noted he will be on vacation and absent from the June meeting.
Village Clerk Jessie Paintin reported that the Legion Hall has been rented for a graduation party on May 16. Paintin also reported that community fundraising efforts for painting the Legion Hall have reached $2,750 through donations raised by Dave Curtis.
Trustees approved payment of monthly bills and claims, including expenses for utilities, payroll, trash collection, equipment repairs and maintenance. Among the larger expenditures were $1,646.90 to Waste Connections for trash services, $969.15 to Copeland Electric for repairs to the west well and $1,000 to Curtis Sign Company as a down payment for Legion Hall painting. Officials noted the painting expense is expected to be reimbursed through grant funding.
The board also approved the purchase of a new mower jack for village maintenance operations.
Trustee Vic Perez was absent from the meeting and excused by board action.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 11.
