Emergency personnel called to unique situation

Emergency personnel found themselves faced with a unique situation Dec. 1 when they were called to Noyes Irrigation at the corner of Central Avenue and Hwy. 23.

An irrigation span sits on the north side of their business office. An employee of the business, Carlos Trejo, 36, was atop the span.

He was bleeding from the wrists from apparent self-inflicted wounds

In a release, Perkins County Sheriff Jim Brueggeman said Trejo slashed both wrists with a box cutter.

Emergency personnel at the scene noted Trejo had lost a significant amount on blood.

Brueggeman said Trejo was initially uncooperative about coming down.

His sister arrived at the scene and spoke to him and got him to come down.

Trejo was transported to the hospital where his lacerations were treated.

Trejo was placed under a protective custody order and transported by law enforcement to Great Plains Health in North Platte for mental evaluation.

Brueggeman said the order was removed after the Trejo indicated he would seek treatment voluntarily.

The Grant Fire Department, Perkins County Ambulance, Regional West Paramedics from Ogallala and the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the call.
