Family portraits in exchange for food pantry donation

Andi Lee of Alee Photography drove around town taking family portraits with the simple request that families make a donation to the food pantry.

Lee has been a photographer for 12 years, and opened her studio 10 years ago in May.

“I thought it would be a fun thing I could do that would allow me to use my creativity while supporting the other families in my hometown community,” Lee said.

Lee reached out to families around town through social media and had an overwhelming response.

Over a two-day period, she drove around Grant to take photos of 30 local families, only asking the families to make whatever donation they could to the Perkins County Food Pantry.

According to Lee, there were a wide variety of set-ups, ranging from funny to as formal as the family wanted.

She is currently in the process of editing and sending digital copies of the photos to families.

Lee says it feels amazing to be able to spread some positivity and happiness to the community in what ways she can.

“It’s one of those things that is hard in a small community,” she said. “It’s nice to feel like you’re making a difference in something as big as this pandemic. Just knowing that I could bring a little bit of happiness to these families, and even five to 10 minutes worth of forgetting all about COVID-19 felt pretty amazing.”

Families whose portraits were taken by Lee should be expecting them in their emails shortly.
