A Grant fire truck emerges from the smoke billowing from a fire in a harvested cornfield on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Fire burns 20 acres southeast of Grant

A fire 10 miles southeast of Grant destroyed approximately 20 acres in a harvested cornfield late Wednesday morning, Nov. 29.

According to Grant Volunteer Fire Department Senior Captain Rick Dreiling, the fire was started near Roads 330 and 752 by a 4-wheeler. They suspect a corn shaft got caught in the exhaust, causing it to ignite.

Madrid’s department was paged to mutual aid immediately, with Imperial and Venango’s departments being dispatched shortly after.

Dreiling said they remained on scene for a couple hours. There were no injuries and the corn had been harvested.
