Fire engulfs car

Grant Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire four miles west of Grant at 10:46 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.

Upon arrival, they found the 2003 Chrysler Concorde completely engulfed alongside Road 324 halfway between Roads 754 and 755.

GVFD Fire Chief Don Softley said “something caused the oil to rapidly disappear out of the engine,” causing it to get hot and ignite.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle safely and without incident.

“[The firefighters] attacked it in semi-fogs and got it knocked down very quickly. Very good job,” said Softley.

Sheriff Jim Brueggeman said they responded to the call and remained on scene until it was finished.
