Fourth of July fun
Grant City Park will be bursting with activity this Friday, July 4, as the community comes together to celebrate Independence Day with a full day of family-friendly fun, food, games, and fireworks. The annual celebration is packed with activities for all ages and will conclude with a fireworks show that lights up the night sky.
Festivities begin bright and early with an Opening Ceremony at 6:45 a.m., followed by the Firecracker Fun Run at 7:00 a.m., organized by Lauren Klima. Runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in this energizing kickoff to the day’s events.
At 7:30 a.m., the Perkins County School Foundation will host a community breakfast, accepting free-will donations. The morning continues with some friendly competition on the court as sand volleyball games get underway at 9 a.m., hosted by First Insight Eyecare.
By 11 a.m., things really get rolling with slushies for sale from the Perkins County FFA and a lunch stand provided by Camp Machasay.
One of the day’s highlights, the Car Show, will run from 12 to 5 p.m., hosted by Ride Rite Garage. During the same time, families can enjoy bounce houses, free popcorn, cotton candy, and water courtesy of the Grant E-Free Church from 12 to 4 p.m.
The fun continues at 1 p.m. with a corn hole tournament, also sponsored by the Perkins County FFA. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a $20 entry fee per team. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.
For those looking to cool off, the City of Grant is offering free swimming at the city pool from 1 to 5 p.m.
Throughout the day, visitors can test their knowledge with Tree Trivia, sponsored by the Grant Tree Board, and enjoy continuous music and announcements provided by Matthew Chandler-Smith and Orpheus Music & Sound.
The grand finale of the day will be the highly anticipated Fireworks Show at 9:30 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds. The show is organized by the Grant Volunteer Fire Department and generously funded by the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce and community donations.
Donations for the Perkins County Chamber fireworks show can be made at any bank in Grant, as well as the designated collection jars located in businesses around town.
With events scheduled from sunrise to well after sunset, Grant’s Fourth of July celebration offers something for everyone and promises to be a highlight of the summer.
