Free hazardous waste collection beginning April 26

The Grant Lions Club, City of Grant and Perkins County Fair Board would like to announce a free household hazardous waste collection at the Perkins County Fairgrounds beginning Monday, April 26th and lasting through Saturday, May 1.

The collection is open to anyone in the local area including neighboring towns. In the past, collection has occurred over the course of a few hours with personnel from the Red Willow Hazardous Waste Program accepting materials.

Due to the pandemic, a new format for waste collection will be used this year.

Pallets will set up at the fairgrounds where waste can be placed at any time during the scheduled dates. As in the past, items accepted include:

• cleaning products

• lawn and garden chemicals

• batteries

• paint

• used oil

• other hazardous household items

Please have items gathered in disposable containers no larger than five gallons or 50 pounds. Containers will not be returned.

No tires, appliances, electronic devices or asbestos containing items will be accepted. The household hazardous waste partnering organizations reserve the right to reject any materials.

This free service is provided by the Red Willow Hazardous Waste Program.

Financial support comes from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality with additional volunteer support from the Perkins County Fair Board, City of Grant and the Grant Lions Club.

For more information, please contact Grant City Hall (308-352-2100) or Lions Club member Ted Tietjen (308-289-5740).
