Friends of Elke Memorial Boutique to raise funds for two local organizations

Thursday, Nov. 18 from 5-8 p.m., the Friends of Elke Memorial Boutique will be open at the Grant E-Free Student Ministries building located just north of the Golden Ours assisted living facility.

Genie Bishop, one of the people organizing the event, said Elke Peterson was “just a delightful lady,” and a very special person to many people.

“She never talked about herself, it was always about someone else,” Bishop said. “She always found time to do so much for so many.”

During her life, Peterson had an interest in journaling and crafting. After her passing in October of this year, several of her friends who are also crafters wanted to get together and do something special in her memory.

At the memorial boutique, a variety of crafts and other items will be available for purchase with a free will donation including assorted craft supplies, decorative dolls, jewelry, Christmas items, wood craft cutouts, holiday decorations, candles and more.

All proceeds from the event will go toward two organizations that were “near and dear” to Peterson: the Perkins County Food Pantry and Camp Machasay, a Christian summer camp for kids, in Amherst , Colo.

Bishop noted these are two organizations Peterson loved and and volunteered her time to.

“She was just a very special lady,” Bishop said. “It was amazing how many people at her funeral spoke up and talked about all the things she did. I don’t know how she managed to help all the people she helped, but she was just that kids of amazing lady.”
