Day by day, the new pool in Grant gets a little closer to be ready for an anticipated open date of Saturday, May 29. The pool is now being filled with water for the initial testing of equipment.

Getting closer every day …

Now that school is out, kids can look forward to when the new pool will open.

Grant City Superintendent Edward Dunn said they had a good construction update meeting last week with contractors.

Contractors remain optimistic they can hit a Saturday, May 29 opening day, Dunn said.

The pool is in the process of filling this week—an important step to test equipment to make sure everything is operating as it should.

Dunn said contractors have lost about six days of work recently due to weather.

The current plan is to get the pool up and running for a May 28 date with the health inspector, Dunn said. Assuming all goes well, the pool is set to open May 29.

He said work is just about to a point where weather interruption shouldn’t be an issue.

It’s down to the little things now, he added.

All of the concrete decking around the pool has been poured. Work is continuing on concrete around the building.

Dunn said it’s coming down to the minor things that must be completed. Workers were busy inside the bath house Tuesday installing sinks, showers, stools, etc.,

Based on last week’s meetings, Dunn said most of the subcontractors expect to be done by week’s end.

Due to the recent rains, electricians can’t get their bucket truck in to install the aerial lighting.

Backup date if needed

If a hiccup occurs to delay the May 29 opening date, it will be moved back one week to June 5.

Dunn said there could be some minor things left to complete even after the opening date. Those are things that won’t affect the opening.

The contract calls for the contractor to officially turn the pool over to the city on June 24.
