The Nebraska Forest Service delivered a mobile SEAT base to the Grant Municipal Airport on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Those in attendance included Bryan Kroeker, Grant airport advisory board president and Grant Volunteer Fire Department captain; Dana Harris, Grant city superintendent and airport manager; Fred Reichert, GVFD assistant chief;  Lew Seiber, NFS fire equipment manager; Don Softley, GVFD chief and Doug Beck, NFS mechanic. 

Grant airport base for wildfire support system

Grant Municipal Airport will serve as the new base for a mobile support unit for aerial firefighting of wildfires in forested lands and/or fires threatening structures.

Lew Sieber, fire equipment manager with the Nebraska Forest Service (NFS), delivered the mobile support unit to the airport Tuesday, Aug. 1.

The mobile support base consists of a semi-trailer bed with two large tanks and a mixer, as well as a tanker truck filled with 5,000 gallons of water.

It’s the only mobile unit in the state, with only four permanent bases statewide.
