Grant City Council Rescinds Nuisance Resolution, Advances Ordinance to Dissolve Board of Adjustment
The Grant City Council addressed several administrative and legislative items during its Nov. 12 meeting, including employee recognition, action on a nuisance property resolution, and the first reading of an ordinance that would dissolve the city’s Board of Adjustment.
Mayor Lisa Schmitt called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m., noting that public notice had been properly posted and published. Council members Kimberly Bishop, Tierney Petersen and Samuel Sims were present, along with Schmitt. Council member Andrea Brueggeman was absent.
City Superintendent Derek Brueggeman reported upcoming board meetings, including the Tree Board and Planning Commission sessions scheduled for Nov. 18. He also updated the council on a recent power outage, noting that a new breaker had been installed earlier that day.
Employee Recognition
Brueggeman announced that Valerie Foster has reached 10 years of service with the City of Grant. Foster was unable to attend the meeting but conveyed her appreciation. She will receive a certificate acknowledging her service.
Resolution on Nuisance Property
The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 25-11-01, which rescinds a previous resolution declaring 986 Hancock Avenue a nuisance property. The resolution will be published in pamphlet form.
Ordinance to Dissolve Board of Adjustment
City Clerk/Treasurer Jessie Faber read the first reading of Ordinance No. 25-11-01, which would dissolve the Board of Adjustment and transfer its powers to the City Council in accordance with Nebraska statutes §§ 19-910 through 19-912.
The council voted to waive the statutory requirement of three readings and then unanimously approved the ordinance. It will also be published in pamphlet form.
Bills and Claims
Council members approved bills and claims totaling $71,898.07. The claims included utility payments, professional services, landfill tipping fees, and bond interest payments, among other expenses. Bishop, Petersen and Sims reviewed the bills prior to the meeting.
Other Business
No public comments were offered, and standing committee members reported no additional updates. Financial reports are still being finalized and will be reviewed at the next meeting.
