Grant native Abby Reign releases new single, “Louder”

Abby Reign, a Grant native, has kicked off her professional music career by releasing her debut single, “Louder,” earlier this month.

Abby Thurin, now performing under the stage name Abby Reign, grew up in Grant, but has spent a lot of her life traveling.

She has now settled in Nashville, Tennessee which she calls “the biggest small town you could have,” since everybody seems to know one another.

She has had a passion for music and expressing herself through artistic outlets her whole life. One of the places she remembers singing first is the Methodist Church in Grant.

Another creative outlet that inspired her as a child was her frequent participation in the Missoula Children’s Theatre in Ogallala, which is now making its way to Grant for the first time this year.

Abby’s parents, both musicians themselves, also helped foster that creativity and inspire her to pursue her dreams. She sings, like her mother, and has played percussion instruments such as the drums like her father.

Up until she attended college, Abby was self-taught , but during her years at Midland University in Fremont she received formal music training.

She had a double-major in Business Arts Management with an emphasis in performance and Marketing.

Other than making music, Abby currently works in customer care on social media for Smile Direct Club. She finds her day job is quite supportive of her passion, and they work very well with her music schedule so she can pursue her singing career alongside her customer care position.

The process of bringing “Louder” to life began in mid-September, when she and her co-writer and producer, Justine Blazer, began writing the song. The single officially released to the public on streaming and download platforms on Feb. 7 and has since been featured on She Wolf Radio, a radio station in Nashville that features female artists.

Just yesterday when checking She Wolf Radio’s charts, Abby noticed her song had moved up from #98 all the way to #60. The song has been streamed approximately 1,600 times on Spotify since its release just over two weeks prior.

“It’s nerve-wracking, honestly,” Abby said, regarding the positive reception of her debut single. “It’s such a vulnerable experience, especially since it’s so personal.”

The song touches on very personal feelings of Abby’s from one of the lowest points in her life. She was struggling with her mental health and decided to write a self-help anthem.

“This was me getting everything out on the table,” she said. “I’m getting my feelings out there. I think times are starting to change, but we tend to brush people’s feelings and mental health aside and it was just really frustrating for me.”

Regarding the lyric in the song, “You can’t quiet me,” Abby says this line is her pulling herself out of her slump and letting the world know they’re all going to hear her as she builds herself back up.

The song truly presents itself as a self-help anthem and an anthem for all those struggling with their own feelings. With tones of pop, rock, and even country, the positive lyrics are inspiring to all those who struggle.
