GVFD extinguishes baler fire north of Grant

Grant Volunteer Fire Department responded to a baler fire a few miles north of Grant in a field west of Highway 61 on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13.
GVFD Fire Chief Don Softley said he was extremely proud of the crew for their quick response in extinguishing the fire. The farmer noticed the fire early and quickly alerted the department.
They were able to save the tractor and very minimal damage was done to the area. Softley said GVFD has responded to 68 calls in 49 days. Last year was their second busiest year in history, and they are about a dozen calls ahead of this same time last year.
