GVFD responds to house fire

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, the Grant Volunteer Fire Department was called to a house fire at 644 Logan Ave.

GVFD Chief Don Softley said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have originated in the kitchen/dining area.

As far as the damage, Softley said the kitchen/dining area is “pretty well gutted,” and there’s smoke damage throughout the rest of the house. Insurance will determine whether the home is salvageable.

According to Softley, GVFD had the main body of the fire suppressed within four to six minutes after arriving on the scene, having it completely extinguished within 15-18 minutes. They did salvage and overhaul along with some investigative work for nearly three hours.

The occupant of the home was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
