Grant City Superintendent Dana Harris has submitted her resignation effective Sept. 30.

Council members received her written notice via email from Mayor Mike Wyatt on Sept. 13. The letter was dated July 30 with a resignation date of Sept. 30.

Council members Andrea Brueggeman and Matt Greenwood stated they had no prior knowledge of the resignation prior to Wyatt’s email. Councilman Darrell Pierce indicated he knew Harris was planning to leave the position, but did not know when.

Harris stated in her resignation letter to the mayor she has had some exciting personal developments that happened much more quickly than she and her family anticipated.

“We have accomplished a lot of great things in the past five and a half years and I have truly enjoyed most days on the job!” she wrote to Wyatt.

She thanked him for the opportunity to do the job and wished him and his family the very best.

An article on the city’s website stated that Harris desires to start a new carefree chapter in her life.

She thanked the city staff for the great work they do, acknowledging that Jessie Faber, Gary Beckler, Randy Heinemann and Bill Taylor are great assets to the community and do much more than most people realize.

“I will miss working with them, but my family is my priority now and I am looking forward to our next adventure,” she said.

Harris accepted the position of city superintendent in November 2012 and began Jan. 2, 2013.
