Highway 61 and 23 work to begin May 1

Weather permitting, a cold milling and asphalt overlay project will begin Wednesday, May 1 on Highway 23 east and west of Grant and Highway 61 south of Grant, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Cold milling is a process of removing deteriorated asphalt in preparation of placing an asphalt overlay to improve the roadway surface and drivability.

State maintenance forces will be performing the cold milling and asphalt overlay on Highway 23 nine miles west of Grant to five miles east of Grant, and Highway 61 from the Chase/Perkins County line to the Hwy. 23/61 junction east of Grant.

The work is anticipated to take 10 days. One-lane traffic will occur with the use of a pilot car and flaggers. Motorists should expect to see delays and are reminded to drive cautiously through highway work zones.
