Holtzman is May artist at gallery

Barbara Holtzman of Holyoke, Colorado is the 2019 May Artist at Meadowlark Gallery located downtown in Grant.

Holtzman’s mother taught her to sew in junior high and she first used that skill to make clothes.

Her first quilting project was a hand-pieced bed quilt that took her over five years to complete.

Having a full-time job, small quilts caught her attention, especially miniature quilts. “Plus they are fun to display at your desk!” Holtzman said.

As she made more quilts, her attention was drawn to the competition side of quilting. Learning to make a quilt good enough to show at quilt festivals helped her with all aspects of quilt making.

Holtzman has published “Quilts in My Cubicle” for working quilters. She has also won numerous awards, including Best Use of Color at the Denver National Quilt Show and CQC Award of Excellence.
