Johnson Publications publisher emeritus to be recognized

Elna Johnson of Imperial, Johnson Publications publisher emeritus, will be recognized at History Nebraska’s gala on Oct. 25.

History Nebraska (formerly the Nebraska State Historical Society) will salute Nebraska’s newspapers as “The First Edition of History” at its gala fundraiser at 6 p.m. CT at the Omaha World-Herald Freedom Center at 14th Street and Capitol Avenue.

John Gottschalk, retired publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, will receive a special award for his personal contributions to Nebraska’s newspaper industry as well as those of the World-Herald under his leadership. 

Families that have owned one or more newspapers for many years or more than one generation will also be recognized. In addition to Johnson, these include Beverly Pollock, Bill Huse, Pat Trysla, Robert Pinkerton, John Edgecombe Jr., Kent Warneke, William Nuckolls, Ken Rhoades, Butch Furse, J. Alan Cramer, Greg and Kathi Viergutz, Lee Ostdiek and Zean and Marilyn Carney.

Tickets to the cocktail buffet benefit History Nebraska’s work in historic preservation, museums and historic sites, assistance to researchers, conservation of historic and artistic items and much more.
