Little Free Library and Pantry paying it forward
A Little Free Library and Little Free Pantry are now available to all community members at 905 Sherman Ave., in Grant.
Breanne Sims first discovered Little Free Libraries about five years ago.
“I just thought it was an amazing idea, because I love reading, and I thought it was a fantastic way to share that love of reading with so many people in the community and neighborhood,” she said.
She recently discovered the Free Little Pantry movement as well, and was eager to establish both a pantry and library in Grant.
The Sims had Noyes Quality Homes build the Little Free Library and Pantry using materials from their tiny home.
The Little Free Library is on one side and consists of books for all ages. Books can be taken and added by anyone who’d like to partake.
Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon.
The small, front-yard book exchanges number 60,000 around the world in 80 countries.
The Little Free Library nonprofit organization has been honored by the Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation, and the American Library Association. Reader’s Digest named them one of the “50 Surprising Things We Love about America.”
The opposite side is the Little Free Pantry, consisting of several food and toiletry items.
Sims said everyone is welcome to take from and donate to the pantry.
“I want neighborhood people to come get a cup of flour or a cup of sugar that they need to finish baking, or an onion for dinner. It’s also for people who really need it, who run out of paycheck at the end of the week and still need to feed their kids dinner.”
She said it’s a resource to add to the community and a fun way to help one another. Neighbors helping neighbors.
