Local greenhouse expands to add garden center, new checkout area

Gardener’s Paradise Greenhouse, owned by Gerald and Alicia Hostetler for the last year, is open for business for the season with a new expanded space.

Rather than construct the new area from scratch, they moved a small building onto the plot and attached it to the greenhouse with a walkway.

The Hostetler’s began to add on the new space at the beginning of this year, and are using the extra space on the north side of the building as a garden center and a checkout area. The space contains gardening supplies, such as a selection of pots and tomato cages, as well as a checkout counter.

The greenhouse, located about a half mile southeast of Grant, opened up on Friday, April 17 for the new season, and they are prepared for COVID-19 concerns in the workplace.

Employees are now wearing masks and are disinfecting touched surfaces at least every hour, if not more. For the time being, the greenhouse requests shoppers come by themselves to limit the number of people in the building at once.

Gardener’s Paradise Greenhouse is also offering curbside pickup for anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable entering the greenhouse amid virus concerns, and they are reserving the first hour of the day for seniors who would like to come in and shop.
