Midwest Electric offering customer discount

Through a new contract with Tri-State Generation, Midwest Electric is passing savings onto their customers through an electric heat rate.

Midwest’s General Manager Larry Umberger said customers with a 240-volt electric heat source are eligible to receive a 2.5 cent per kilowatt-hour discount on their heat service. The rate is good from Oct. 1 through April 30.

The equipment needed for this service is provided by Midwest, but the customer must hire an electrician to install it.

With the first customers registering in December, Umberger said just over 100 have followed suit, meeting the set goal of 100 for the first year.

“We continue to get more every week, almost every day,” he said.

While Umberger noted numbers are very preliminary at this point, it’s looking like the average savings is $30-60 per month.

As a reminder, the City of Grant contracts with Midwest Electric to maintain the city’s electric system and provide billing services. City of Grant residents are not eligible for the electric heat rate discounts.

Those interested in the electric heat rate may call Midwest Electric at 308-352-4356.
