Miguel and Erica Navarro hold their newborn son, Lonzo, the first baby born in Perkins County in 2019.

Navarros welcome first baby of 2019

After choosing to travel from Imperial to Grant for prenatal care with Dr. Ruth Demmel, the Navarro family found themselves in the Perkins County spotlight last week when they welcomed their newborn son, the first baby born in Perkins County this year.

Contractions beginning on New Year’s Eve led Miguel and Erica Navarro to welcome their new bundle of joy at Perkins County Hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.

“I tried to pretend it wasn’t happening at first,” Erica said. “But it was happening.”

Three weeks early, weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces, and measuring 18 inches long, Lonzo King Navarro arrived via a caesarian at 2:07 p.m. last Wednesday.

Lonzo has three older siblings to welcome him home; big sister Mya, 10, brother Tony is 8 and brother Leo is 3.

Miguel said he got to choose the name for the baby, and decided to name him after Lonzo Ball, a professional basketball player, currently playing for the LA Lakers.

Lonzo will live with his family in Imperial, his mother is a homemaker and his father travels working construction.

Lucky for him, Lonzo will also have both grandmothers nearby as Irma Murillo and Mita Aguirre both reside in Imperial as well.
