Nebraska Game and Parks Activities planned

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will be hosting several upcoming activities at Lake McConaughy, Lake Ogallala and Ash Hollow. State Park Entry Permit is required on all vehicles entering these areas.

Kayaking Class

A “Principles of Kayaking” session will take place at the Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area on Sept. 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Registration will be limited to seven people 16 years of age and older. Join a basic instructional course on kayaking at the lake. Kayaking principles and safety skills will be taught by the boating safety officer, followed by time on the water. All materials will be provided, but participants may bring their own kayak.

Let’s Go Birding

“Let’s Go Birding” at Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area  will be on Sept. 22 starting at 8 a.m. Join the park naturalist on a guided bird walk. Binoculars, bird guides and checklists will be provided. Participants should wear appropriate walking shoes and bring plenty of water. Meet at the Lake Ogallala Hike/Bike Trail located on the east side of the lake inside the modern campground. 

Star Party

A star party at Ash Hollow State Historical Park will be held on Friday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. A local astronomer will be bringing a telescope and providing information. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescope and should bring a chair and dress warm. The event will take place in the first parking area. Limited refreshments will be provided.
