No injuries in rollover accident
Joel DaMoude, 18, of Imperial and a recent Chase County High School graduate, was involved in a one-vehicle rollover accident late Monday morning, May 21, five miles southeast of Grant.
DaMoude was travelling southbound on Highway 61 in a black 2015 Ford F250 SuperCab owned by Wine Glass Ranch of Imperial, hauling an H & H gooseneck flatbed trailer loaded with seed.
According to Perkins County Sheriff Jim Brueggeman, DaMoude overcorrected after dozing off, causing the pickup to roll one-and-a-half times and the trailer to roll once, landing in the east ditch.
With his seat belt on and the pickup totaled on its top, DaMoude was trapped in the vehicle until a trucker, Jeromy Matthies of Gothenburg, stopped and cut him out of the seat belt.
DaMoude was out of the vehicle before Perkins County Ambulance arrived on scene around noon.
He was transported by ambulance to Perkins County Health Services and released with no injuries.
“This is just another example of how a seat belt saved a life in what could have been a tragic accident,” said Brueggeman.
Brueggeman and PCSO Deputy Blake McCreedy remained on scene until 4 p.m. directing traffic around the accident until the pickup and trailer were removed from the scene.
The pickup was a total loss.
