NWS North Platte

Winter Storm Warning in effect through weekend

At noon on Friday, Nov. 30, NWS North Platte said moderate to heavy snow accumulations will begin this evening with the bulk of the snowfall occuring late tonight through Saturday night, though light accumulations are expected through Sunday.

There may be a brief period of ice accumulation, whether it be sleet or freezing rain, but impacts are expected to be minimal.

NWS is not forecasting a blizzard or a major impact in terms of visibilty, but with gusts up to 25 mph, reduced visibility is expected in open areas.

"This is a big storm with the potential of a foot or more snow across the area. Very, very high confidence on the timing of this system. We have medium confidence on the snow amounts due to the changeover from rain to snow. This is going to be a wet event. We also have high confidence that travel will be impacted across all of western and north central Nebraska starting tonight and continuing all the way through at least midday Sunday." -NWS
