PCCFF Update: PCCFF is presented with challenge to increase endowment by $150,000; $40,000 remains to be raised

Thank you to those who came to celebrate with us on Sunday, Aug. 11. What a fun time we had celebrating the county we love.

Brenda Styskal gave us a wonderful glimpse into Perkins County’s past, and we enjoyed fellowship and a delicious cake by Lori Day.

We also revealed our big announcement. We are so excited to announce that the Perkins County Community Foundation Fund was presented with a challenge two years ago from an anonymous donor.

The donor challenged the advisory committee to raise $100,000. If that could be done, the donor would then donate $50,000 to the PCCFF.

With PCCFF Co-Chair Dennis Demmel leading the way, our 12 member advisory committee is excited to announce that a total of $60,000 of the $100,000 challenge has already been raised, with our deadline nearing on Dec., 31, 2019.

We are $40,000 shy of reaching this goal that will ultimately add an additional $150,000 into the PCCFF’s endowment and increase the amount of funds we are able to put back into Perkins County.

Currently, we are able to put approximately $13,000 back into the county each year through grants, but we could do so much more if we continue to build our endowment.

Will you help us reach this goal today? Any amount is appreciated. To find out more about how to help us reach our goal, and raise the remaining $40,000 by Dec. 31, 2019, you can contact any one of the 12 member advisory committee members. They are myself, Michelle Ross, Dennis Demmel, Janet Lagler, Jeff Wallin, Angela Gloy, Val Foster, Diana Maupin, Barb Tines, Kim Bishop, Tana Miller and Kris Long.

Hear About County’s History

If you weren’t able to make it Sunday, and would like to hear a little bit of Perkins County’s history that was presented by Brenda Styskal during the day, log on to our Facebook page and watch the video of her presentation. It is fascinating!

What struck me as Brenda spoke of how Perkins County came to be what it is today was the camaraderie, collaboration, and team spirit that was vital in the survival of the communities here on the Plains in not only the first years of settlement on the prairie, but also through such tough times as during the Depression and the World Wars.

If you think about it, we are right back to one of those “tough” times when rural Americans need to come together and meet the unique challenges that we face today as we continue to lose population. This thought process really puts the emphasis on the word community in our name, the Perkins County COMMUNITY Foundation Fund.

We are all about community, and saving our communities here in Perkins County, but we must come together to do it.

Help us today. Any amount given helps. And thanks again to my committee for all of their hard work in putting Sunday’s event on—especially Michelle, Janet, Kris, and Val— and a huge thank you to Dennis for the leadership he has given in helping us on our way to meeting this challenge.

As always, those with questions about the fund can contact me at beckyuehling@hotmail.com or 352-8527.
