PCCFF Update: Youth survey gives hopes to small town future

Most adults who live in Perkins County love being able to call it home and appreciate the opportunities it offers. The Perkins County Community Foundation Fund wanted to see if our youth felt the same way.

In order to take a closer look into the thoughts of Perkins County youth, the Fund Advisory Committee partnered with the Nebraska Community Foundation in February of this year to provide the survey. High school students from Perkins County answered questions in an anonymous survey about whether they one day intended to live here, what employment opportunities they felt like were most available, and how they felt about participating in community organizations, among other topics.

Youth feedback from the survey was outstanding! The Fund Advisory Committee was thrilled to see their thoughts that we now want to share with you and begin utilizing to engage our youth to take ownership of their community both now and long term. A few of the results from the survey are as follows.

58 percent of youth said their ideal community to live in would be small, similar to their hometown.

15 percent of youth answered that they are “extremely likely” to live in the Perkins County area as an adult and another 42 percent shared that they are “somewhat likely” to live in this area.

91 percent of youth shared that they have a job (babysitting, mowing lawns, etc.)

These are just a few of the results of the survey. Check back soon for part two of this article series where more results will be shared!
