Perkins County Fair begins Sunday

A week of “Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights” begins this coming Sunday at the Perkins County Fair. Many fun-filled events have been planned for young and old.

All activities begin Sunday, July 16 with the 4-H horse show at 8 a.m. and closes on Saturday, July 22 with big-named country bands, Cooper Alan and the Eli Young Band. 

The schedule is full of something for everyone; from the usual crowd favorites of the parade, 4-H animal shows, bounce houses, mechanical bull and bingo -— to the newer attractions of an archery shoot, zip line and golf-on-the-go. 

Thursday morning starts off with the Chamber’s breakfast at 6 a.m. 

Thursday night’s entertainment is brought by the Perkins County FFA who will host “Farm Olympics,” followed by the wild adventures of the Mayfield Ranch’s “Bulls & Barrels.” 

Bounce houses and bingo will be available from Thursday through Saturday. 

A ranch rodeo will be on Friday evening, in memory of Hoyt Hendricks. Youth are invited to participate in the mutton bustin during the ranch rodeo. 

The Perkins County Fair Board will host a beer garden on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Saturday starts with the parade at 10 a.m., which will take the same route that it did last year. Registration will be on the south side of the park, with line up starting on the north side as has been in the past. Early parade entries are encouraged at Pinnacle Bank. 

 Also on Saturday the BBQ, style review, 4-H awards, and the tractor pull.

Updates to the fair grounds to prepare for this year’s fair include a new handicap ramp and platform on the grandstands, and a new roof, insulation and side walls on the dance hall.
