Perkins County GOP in process of reorganizing

Third District GOP Chairman Ron Schmidt of Ogallala met with the Perkins County Republicans during a reorganization of the county committee March 15.

Perkins County Republicans, along with several other county committees, are in the process of reorganizing to address issues they believe are seriously threatening freedoms of all Nebraskans and Americans.

These issues include voting integrity, overreach by the state and federal government, and threats to many freedoms all Americans enjoy, including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom to bear arms.

Schmidt gave the group an overview of the efforts being taken across the Third District to fill vacancies and strengthen the voice of Third District Republicans.

“There are several areas of the state that are not being represented,” Schmidt said.  “We need people in every county to step up so we can be heard at the state level,”  Schmidt said.

Of the 51 districts of the Republican GOP in Nebraska, 17 are located in the Third District, which covers the majority of the land mass in western Nebraska.

He said many of the districts in the Third District are not well organized and simply do not have representation. He’s on a mission to change that.

The current leadership in the Perkins County Republican Party include Chairman Edward Dunn, Secretary Richard Roberts and Treasurer Patsy Kroeker.

Perkins County is part of District 315, which includes nine other counties: Chase, Hayes, Dundy, Red Willow, Hitchcock, Frontier, Gosper, Furnas and Harlan

Each county elects officers at the county level, with each district then voting for three people to represent them at the state level.

Current representatives for District 315 are Committeewoman Kathy Wilmot of Furnas County and Committeeman Bruce Desautels of Hitchcock County.

A third representative has not yet been chosen for District 315.

Schmidt said Dundy and Frontier Counties currently do not have any elected officials representing them.

Chase, Furnas, Gosper, Harlan, Hayes, Hitchcock and Red Willow each have one or two spots open, he added.

The Perkins County committee plans to start meeting monthly to continue discussions and work on issues.

An online discussion group has also been set up on the social media platform Telegram under the name “Perkins County Election Protection.” People can also join a county email list by emailing Dunn at dunnedward25@gmail.com.
