Perkins County Schools District to elect three

1. What qualifications do you have that would effectively serve and benefit Perkins County Schools if you are elected to this position?

Jayson Bishop: I have been on the board for 12 years and have served as treasurer and president during that time.  I feel I have a good understanding of a lot of the topics that the board needs to know about such as the budget, policies and legal issues that may come up.  I think that knowledge would continue to benefit the school as well as help educate new board members who will be starting their terms next year.

Larry Pankonin: Declined to participate.

By Petition - Holly Cornelius: When I lived in Minneapolis, I worked in both human resources and community outreach. Both areas gave me opportunities to work with a variety of people and gain experience in how to approach problems creatively. Since moving to Perkins County, I’ve been a substitute teacher in the district which has allowed me to meet many of the students and teachers in the district. In addition, my husband Chris and I are parents of a toddler that will someday attend PCS which gives us a vested interest in helping our schools to continue to be successful in the future.

By Petition - Janet Lagler: I feel like I have very well-rounded experiences with the schools, both elementary and Jr./Sr. high. I was employed by the school system in Grant for 25 years. I have worked under six superintendents and several principals.

My first job was a para with a one-on-one special ed student in elementary for two years and then worked as a para in various classrooms. I was then transferred to the high school and became the media aide for several years. I also helped Mr. Pritchett with basketball programs and sports handbooks. My last position at the high school was office secretary. I did the parent and student handbooks, annual reports and helped with the annual academic and athletic program booklets and monthly newsletters that were mailed out countywide. During the 25 years I also was a route bus driver, full-time, half-time and substitute. While at the high school for 14 years, I was the yearbook adviser, also prom sponsor for two years, and I made numerous costumes and props for the annual fall musicals.

After I retired from the school I came back to the school a couple years ago and had part-time jobs such as job coaching two special ed students, substituted on bus routes for a couple years and ran the after-school sports shuttle route for Madrid and Elsie students. I had compiled a history of the town schools in the county several years ago and when the junior high was added on, I added that addition into the history as well. I also went through all the trophies in the high school and all the trophies from Madrid, Elsie and Wheatland and cataloged them. I was also a Teammate mentor for a couple years.
