Pool committee answers questions

T

he Perkins County Pool Project Committee has been very busy behind the scenes the past couple months. We are in the process of planning and organizing several fund raising events that will be taking place in the next year. More information regarding these events will be shared and advertised as the dates of the events approach.

Please visit our Facebook group, Perkins County Pool Project, or our newly designed website https://sites.google.com/site/perkinscountypoolproject/ to stay up-to-date on our project.

We post information regarding fundraisers, ways to give, and information regarding our mission. As always, we can be reached by email at pcppcommittee@gmail.com.

Q&A

• Will my taxes go up?

No. The City of Grant currently has a sales and use tax of 1 percent. A resolution was passed July 28, 2015 allocating 1/2 percent of this tax towards the updates of the pool/bathhouse project. What this means is that your taxes will not go up.

The estimated total of the pool/bathhouse allocated funds will be $1.4 million over 20 years (based on a conservative amount of $70,000 a year raised through the sales and use tax). Currently there is $373,562 from Sept. 2012 to present. Fund raising, donations, and grants would cover the remaining cost. PCPP’s goal is to raise the difference.

• What happens with the money raised if we don’t receive the $1.7M for the aquatic build?

 We have several options available.

• If we are close with the funds to the $1.7M, we can scale back on the aquatic center to match what we have raised.

• If we are not close to the $1.7M, the money remains in the Nebraska Community Foundation Fund. We choose if the money would go towards the bath house project. In this case, we would explore other avenues such as, but not limited to, a splash pad for the aquatic center with the input from donors. We have not set details on this as we are keeping a positive attitude that as a community we will raise the funds of the $1.7M for the new aquatic center.

This money is managed by the Nebraska Community Foundation. The City of Grant does not have access to this account. We want to let donators and those who are thinking of donating that this money will not go to waste. If we do not get enough funds for the aquatic center, we are willing to listen to input from donators and community members.

Regardless of the money, will another bond have to be passed in order for the aquatic center to go forward?

A resolution was passed that 1/2 percent sales tax is designated to the aquatic center.

Keep in mind, when you buy locally, you are putting money in toward the aquatic center.
