Pool to open Memorial Day

Lee hired as parks and rec director

Water filled the depths of the Grant Municipal Pool last week in preparation of its Memorial Day opening on May 28.

New Park and Rec Director Andi Lee and the lifeguards were on site this week cleaning the grounds and bath houses and completing other tasks to prepare for the opening.

This season’s lifeguards include Bella Frazier, Hailee Frazier, Bruce Gamble, Rylee Huff, Madisen Messersmith, Kate Patrick, Jerad Phillips, Katie Phillips, Keegan Sims, Sydney Wilson and Jasmine Dannar.

In addition to Lee and two city crew members, Wilson and Katie Phillips are certified pool operators.

The pool will be open Monday through Friday from 1-5:30 p.m., with lap swimming available for one hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. Night swimming is open Monday-Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. The pool will be open 1-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Family season passes are available at a cost of $100 for up to six immediate family members. Additional family members may be added for $10 each. Individual passes are $40 for adults and $35 for K-12 students and 60-plus senior citizens. Passes can be purchased now at city hall or at the pool starting Monday.

Daily fees are $4 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.

Children ages 0-6 are free with an adult.

Water aerobics will be offered 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The class is free with a season pass, or $20 plus daily fee.

Public swimming lessons will be offered June 11-15 and July 9-13.

Pool parties will be available for $100 for the first hour and $75 for the second hour.

New director

Lee, of Grant, was hired as the new park and rec director on Tuesday, May 15 and began her duties the following day.

Lee said with her kids older, she has a little more time in the summer and it seemed like a fun opportunity as she loves working with the youth.

“It’s an exciting new challenge,” she said.

City Superintendent Dana Harris said she’s excited for Lee to take on the position.

“She’ll be a good fit as she’s a ball coach and very familiar with the pool. She spends a lot of time there and she’s liked by the kids,” Harris said.

Lee replaces Rachel Patrick, who submitted her resignation on May 7.
