Power outage affects entire county

A truck that took out a power line at the ethanol plant in Madrid left Perkins County without power for just over two hours on Thursday morning, Jan. 11.

Just after 7 a.m. at Mid America Agri Products/Wheatland, LLC, (MAAP/W) an Imperial Beef semi-truck drove under an Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) distribution line with its trailer lifted, catching the line and dragging it approximately 150 feet.

This in turn took down the corresponding 70-foot pole and the attached transmission line, which travels back to Midwest Electric’s Grant substation southeast of Grant. The large transformer at that substation shut down, taking out power throughout the county.
