Prep for surgery, ‘Operation’ is returning!

The Operation Tournament is back by popular demand!

The Perkins County Health Services Foundation will once again be holding a life-size Operation tournament in November rather than the typical “gala” fundraiser event the hospital’s foundation has held in the past.

With lingering COVID concerns, PCHSF felt it was safest to again limit the number of people in the room and still raise the needed funds for the hospital.

Jackie Urdahl, foundation director for PCHS, said the event was a lot of fun last year and she is excited to do it again.

“We learned a lot last year, so this year should be even easier, and I think everybody who played had a really good time last year,” she added.

The funds from this year’s event will help the hospital purchase the new digital imaging equipment needed to provide the very best patient-centered care.

The PCHS radiology department served 4,270 patients from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 and performed 6,798. The ability to perform necessary testing at PCHS helps patients avoid traveling 50-300 miles or more to receive the same tests.

The equipment for the digital imaging department the hospital is raising money for totals at $47,300 and provides a variety of equipment and items needed to both improve patient care and comfort and increase efficiencies for the staff in the department.

The $47,300 funding package includes 11 pieces of equipment and other items:

• Hologic Smart Breast Paddles

• Trophon 2 automated ultrasound probe disinfection unit

• Blanet warmer for the CT room and heating pads for IV starts

• Small refrigerator for MRI area to provide water for patients post-MRI

• New footboard for conducting standing foot x-rays;

• TV monitor for the ultrasound room

• Transducer stabilizer for ultrasounds for safe storage;

• Hover Matt Air Transfer System to aid caregivers in moving patients

• Magnetic system for doors between ER, x-ray and CT

• Keyless entry doors to the Diagnostic Imaging Department;

• Protective wall liner where the C-arm for surgical cases and the chair for stereotactic breast biopsy are housed.

The tournament will begin Monday, Nov. 1 and will continue through Friday, Nov. 19.

32 teams of two players, prepped for “surgery” in gloves, masks and gowns will compete in a best-of-five single elimination tournament.

The public will be able to attend the events this year, but Urdahl said public guests will be kept to a limited number for safety reasons.

Qualifying rounds will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each week of the tournament at Arnold Insurance Agency in Grant.

The semifinal and final rounds will be held Friday, Nov. 19.

If interested in participating, the cost is $200 per team and PCHS will continue to accept new teams until the bracket is filled or Wednesday, Oct. 27, whichever occurs first. Call 308-352-7285 to register a team for the tournament.

Silent auction items will be displayed during the event, and can also be viewed at https://www.32auctions.com/ PCHSOperationtournament.

Sponsorship options are still available, and those interested in sponsoring the event can contact Urdahl at 308-352-7285 or pchsfoundation@gmail.com.
