Primary Election filings finalized

There’s not going to be a lot of excitement in this year’s Primary Election in Perkins County.

Of the four local and county races, only one race—Grant City Council—will be contested.

But since there are only four candidates for two seats, they all automatically advance to the General Election in November.

In fact, the only local/county race that will appear on the Primary Election ballot will be for the Perkins County Hospital Board. That board is elected at the Primary.

Only the incumbents filed for the two openings on the Perkins County Hospital Board—John Long and Dianne Harms.

District 1 County Commissioner Sid Colson is running unopposed on the Republican ballot and no Democratic candidates filed for the seat so he automatically advances to the General.

There are three openings on the Perkins County School Board. Incumbents included Jayson Bishop, Angie Patrick and Larry Pritchett. Bishop was the only one to seek re-election. Two new candidates filed for those seats, Edward Dunn and Larry Pankonin, and all three will automatically advance to the General.

The Grant City Council has four candidates vying for two seats.

Both incumbents, Matt Greenwood and Kimberly Bishop, filed for re-election and will be joined on the November ballot by Samuel Sims and Cody Lee.

Tom Schroeder was unopposed for the Upper Republican Board, Subdistrict 9 and will automatically advance.

Election Commissioner Rita Long said her office is currently accepting early voter applications. Early voting ballots will be mailed April 6 and will be available at her office on April 13.

She noted other important dates leading up to election:

•April 28—Deadline for mailed-in voter registrations.

•May 1—Last day for in-person voter registration. Clerk’s office will remain open until 6 p.m.

•May 1—Last day to request ballots to be mailed.

•May 11—Deadline for in-person early voting.

•May 12—Election Day.  Polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds.
