Property tax requests finalized

During this year’s budget process, Perkins County District 1 commissioner Sid Colson and District 2 commissioner Ron Hagan said they would be each be increasing their road budgets by $100,000.

Those two line items represented more than half of the increase sought by the county for the 2021-22 tax year.  Other factors included cost-of-living raises and increases in health costs.

Their tax request increased $371,899 or 11.65% over last year’s request.

Perkins County Schools, which makes the largest amount of overall tax request, keep their asking within 1.15% of last year, equating to an increase of just $69,697.

State statute regulates the tax asking from the hospital, based on a percentage of the county’s total valuation.

The county’s valuation dipped some again this year, which slightly reduced the amount of taxes the hospital could request.

The City of Grant makes the next largest request with $321,143. Overall, this represents a single digit increase of 9.77%,
