The Perkins County Area Arts Council’s Long Hot Summer Series will continue Friday, May 29, with a performance by Rascal Martinez at The Lot in downtown Grant. The show will begin at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of live music. A freewill donation will be accepted. Rascal Martinez blends Americana, country, folk and rock influences with an acoustic, singer-songwriter style. His music leans emotional and story-driven, with a gritty, heartfelt sound that fits fans of artists like Tyler Childers, The Lumineers, Zach Bryan or even some Jelly Roll-style vulnerability. He has roots in western Nebraska and has become somewhat of a regional favorite, especially around the North Platte and Sutherland area.Martinez performs original songs, but also does recognizable covers from artists like The Lumineers, Tyler Childers and Jelly Roll. The Rascal Martinez event follows the cancellation of the May 16 Eben Rosentrater performance, which was called off because of storm warnings in the area. The next concert installment is scheduled for June 12. Also open that evening for entertainment will be the Meadowlark Gallery, featuring its May show, “Art by Breeanna Benton.” The gallery is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings.
