Remembering those who have fallen

At the Memorial Day service at Fairview Cemetery in Grant Monday, May 29, five-year-old Duncan Ogg learns the importance of honoring our heroes, attending with his dad, Travis Ogg. Travis and his son attended services in both Grant and Madrid. Travis, a Grant volunteer firefighter and state fire marshall employee, comes from a long line of family military service. His grandfather Luke Ogg, who served in World War II, is buried at Fairvew Cemtery. His dad, Ron, a Vietnam veteran, is buried in the Madrid cemetery. Other ancestors he has traced served as far back as the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. Travis feels it is his duty to teach his children to appreciate the freedoms enjoyed today due to the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in military service. Memorial Day services at Fairview Cemetery were led by Stephanie Larson of the Veteran Service Office and Deanna Schulze, chaplain.
