The closure of East 9th Street between Washington and Hancock Avenues came a week or so sooner than city officials anticipated. Superintendent Ed Dunn said the subcontractor finished up on a job early and wanted to know if they could start on the sewer extension necessary as part of the pool project. They already had the main buried by Monday and were packing the trench with a remote packer, which creates a much safer environment by not putting people in the trench.
